The City of Sonoma is where the State of California began. It was here, in the middle of the 1800’s that independence from Mexico was declared and the Bear Flag briefly flew before being replaced with the Stars and Stripes. Sonoma is the location of the northernmost mission built by the Spanish and Mexicans and is home to many historical sites, most located within easy walking from the Victorian Garden Inn or the Cottage Inn & Spa or an easy drive from the Sonoma Chalet. The city square is one of the most perfect squares of any small city in California. Allow plenty of time to stroll around the shops, restaurants, and historical points of interest that make this such a wonderful destination and headquarters for exploring Sonoma wine country
